Your packaging inputs
Set packagingFamily to carton and supply cartonOptions, or choose case with optional allowedCatalogs. Omitting the family selects cases for compatibility.
Run a dimension check against your cartons or case references. Explore the native engine through recorded packing, nesting and insert calculations.

POST /api/packaging/evaluateSupply 1–20 cartons with usable internal dimensions. The three sizes below are demonstrations, not supplier products.

The same endpoint serves the configurator. It compares nominal dimensions and does not store submitted dimensions. Fit and protection require engineering review.
STANDALONE NATIVE ENGINE
The native service is implemented separately and is not connected to this web draft yet. The linked examples are recorded calculations with their original inputs and files.
packRectangular items, quantities and finite stock become placements with rotations, weight limits and independent collision checks.
PackingSolvernestContours, holes, explicit angles and sheet stock become layouts checked for containment, overlap and spacing.
PackingSolver + Clipper2insertRectangular cavities, clearance, minimum walls and floor become a solid with STEP, DXF and GLB exports.
CadQuery / Open CASCADE + Clipper2powernestA supported subset of the public Powernest JSON format feeds the native nesting operation. Unsupported options are rejected.
Independent format adapterselectionQuantities and costs of separately validated plans feed a scalar optimisation. Spatial placement is checked by the other operations.
OR-Tools CP-SATPowernest import uses the public format subset, not Alma’s proprietary solver. Every geometric result remains subject to engineering review; material, shock and ESD qualification are separate.

| Endpoint | What it returns |
|---|---|
POST /api/packaging/evaluate | Required envelope, tested orientations, ranked carton or case options, axis margins and exclusions. |
GET /api/packaging/catalog | Selected case references from six manufacturer catalogs, with nominal dimensions and source links. Carton dimensions come from your request. |
GET /openapi.json | OpenAPI 3.1 schemas for both packaging families and error responses. |
Set packagingFamily to carton and supply cartonOptions, or choose case with optional allowedCatalogs. Omitting the family selects cases for compatibility.
paddingPerSideMm adds clearance on both sides of each axis. upright tests 0° and 90° rotation in the base plane; fixed preserves the supplied orientation.
Passing options are ranked by nominal internal volume. The response includes per-axis margins, failed checks and unvalidated criteria. It does not approve cushioning, loading paths or shipping performance.
The downloadable STEP assembly and report describe one synthetic part, insert and generic container. They are a fixed technical example; API requests and configurator selections do not regenerate this geometry.

The dimension comparison API is public and stateless. Browser requests must use the same origin; server clients can call it without an Origin header. It does not generate customer CAD. The enquiry inbox remains restricted to the owner. Industrial API access and white-label workflows are scoped with each interested partner.
